Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Pride event?

“Pride,” is a commonly accepted shorthand referring to the celebration of LGBTQIA+ pride. The first Pride events took place on June, 28th, 1970, in recognition of the one-year anniversary of one of the most significant LGBTQIA+ civil rights events, known as the Stonewall Riots. Since then, LGBTQIA+ celebrations have become annual traditions throughout the country during the month of June.

Pride events are opportunities for the LGBTQIA+ community, along with allies, to come together and celebrate our diverse identities, as we continue to advocate for our rights and inherent dignity.

We’re focusing on creating a joyful, educational, community-strengthening, family-friendly event in the park. Some of the highlights of the event will include:

  • Music

  • Drag Queen entertainment

  • Food Trucks

  • Vendors

  • Community resources

  • Kids activities, including a rock climbing wall

  • Hamden Pride merch
